Hi!

Welcome to CT Eats Out: a food and travel blog by Alycia Chrosniak.

Tangiers International Market

Tangiers International Market

This family owned and operated specialty market has been serving Middle Eastern food since they opened in West Hartford in 1995. What began as a market with a few shelves of Middle Eastern products soon saw the introduction of the matriarch's falafel recipe, along with gyros and hummus, served behind a simple counter. As the sons slowly took over the business from their parents, additional items like their chicken kebab, chicken curry, and chick pea salad saw their way to the menu and their following continued to grow.

A relocation in 2014 sent them a few blocks down the road from West Hartford into Hartford and an even larger space. These days Tangiers International Market includes aisles of Middle Eastern groceries, fresh produce, prepared food, and is the perfect spot to stop in for lunch or a casual dinner, and an even better place to grab food to-go. The counter service has been joined by a few tables, and you can always count on some of the friendliest service in the state. It's a place where regulars are known by name, and new guests are greeted as friends.

In 2018, eldest brother, Winfield Latif, launched Baba Ghanoush Food Truck, an offshoot of Tangiers, serving all the food you know and love - on wheels.
