Gift Guide: Mother's Day 2019

Gift Guide: Mother's Day 2019

Mother’s Day is right around the corner- next weekend, people! And your mom deserves a great gift for all the nonsense that you put her through every year. Here are some things that she’ll love:

For The Woman Who Needs A Break:

Yesterday, when I asked my mom what she wanted for Mother’s Day, she reminded me of the coupon books I used to make for her when I was little that would say things like “vacuum living room” or “one day off from kids”. The grown up version of that coupon book is a subscription service. Send mom a nice case of award winning wine, or a locally curated cheese box. Or take dinner off her mind, with a subscription to meal delivery services like Plated (who is offering 25% off your first four weeks).

For The Farmers’ Market Regular:

When I was growing up my mother had a beautiful woven bag that she got while on vacation in Virgin Gorda… which I naturally then broke. A situation mothers are all too familiar with. These market bags remind me of the one my mother once owned. The tote, and large and small backpack would be perfect for everything from a day trip to the beach to a weekly trek to a local farmers’ market. In fact, this might be the perfect time to replace hers…

For The Gardener:

I got my green thumb from my mother, who every summer dedicates much of herself to our backyard garden; religiously replanting annuals, and pruning perennials. This section is literally filled with items she not so subtlety hinted that she had her eye on. Gardening gloves, clogs, and a kneeling mat to make her hobby a little more comfortable, a cute watering can that you can feel proud leaving on the patio, and organizational toolkits so that everything is always on hand. If your mother already has all of those, a nice hydrangea, or rose bush also make a great gift.

For The Chef Of The Family:

If your mom is the parent who spends the majority of time in kitchen (and enjoys it), then there is an endless list of presents to get her. Alison Roman’s Dining In and Olivia McCool’s Lunch! are both great cookbooks for flawless meals. If she is the sentimental type, then a recipe box or recipe book to store all the family recipes in might be a good gift. If she packs her lunch everyday, a chic reusable food container, reusable water bottle, and set of reusable cutlery might make a practical present. And every mother needs this Super Mom dish towel.

For The Lady Who Likes A Leisurely Morning:

Sometimes the best gift you can give mom is the makings of leisurely morning in. (Special shout out to my mom for always waking up so early that we’d make her get back in bed.) But if your mother enjoys sleeping in, then this is the present for her. Serve her crepes or pancakes, and coffee in a mug that will keep her beverage warm, on a tray that was made for breakfast in bed.

For The Woman Who Loves A Flower Arrangement:

Flowers are the best. THE BEST. They instantly brighten and pull together a room no matter what kind of mess is happening. If you don’t have a local florist that you like, I’ve had great success ordering arrangements from both The Bouqs Co., and Urbanstems (which also offers a fun subscription service!).
