bartaco's Red Sonja Cocktail

Perfect for Cinco de Mayo (or any other day really), the Red Sonja cocktail is as spicy as the heroine it is named after. Getting its kick from jalapeno and ginger, the drink is balanced out with lemon juice and Byrrh Quinquina, a lightly bitter apertif. Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

3 “coin size” slices of ginger
3⁄4 oz. Simple syrup
1 Jalapeno slice
1 oz Lemon juice
1 oz. Byrrh Quinquina
1 oz Olmeca Altos Reposado
2 dashes peychauds
Garnish – lemon wheel on skewer

Instructions

Add ginger and simple syrup to a small shaker and muddle
Add the remaining ingredients to the cocktail shaker
Fill the small shaker to the top with ice
Shake to incorporate
Double strain into a highball glass with ice
Garnish with lemon wheel and enjoy!
