White Hart Provisions
On the side of the White Hart Inn, just around the corner from their covered front porch and lawn games, lies a cheerful yellow sign welcoming you to White Hart Provisions. If you’re lucky enough to be staying at the inn, your room comes with a complimentary breakfast from Provisions, complete with your choice of hot and cold beverage (the juices are freshly squeezed and the coffee roasted locally) and a pastry (go for the scone if you’re sticking to the inn’s British theme, otherwise the ham and cheese croissant is a well done savory pick). If you’re not residing at the White Hart, the cheerful yellow sign beckons Litchfield County locals and travelers in from the road, where they can indulge in a casual breakfast or lunch either outside on the just-as-cheerful-patio, or inside in a space decorated as a modern general store, surrounded by a curated selection of books, homewares and provisions.
The cafe opens at 7am daily, serves breakfast all day, lunch from 11-4pm, and offers catering, and Friday Suppers to-go: a full meal for two that can be picked up on Friday afternoons with the menu changing weekly. Breakfast items consist of a variety of pastries and toasts, my personal favorite British breakfast item: the bacon butty (back bacon, butter and brown sauce sandwiched between a roll), granola, oatmeal, avocado toast and few different bagel and breakfast sandwich options. Lunch is just as simple, but still expertly prepared with an assortment of soups, salads and sandwiches, including grilled cheese on challah; roast beef with crispy shallots, watercress, and tomato on baguette; and sweet potato with egg, feta and olives on focaccia.
