Hi!

Capitol Lunch

Capitol Lunch

Around since 1929, Capitol Lunch has been serving hot dogs in New Britain for over 89 years. In what started as a ploy to get customers into his shoe shine shop, turned into a restaurant that has expanded and moved twice to accommodate it's ever growing popularity.

Capitol Lunch is known for their "famous sauce", a thick ground beef and spice mixture, that only a handful of people know the recipe to. The hot dogs are made specially for Capitol Lunch, just down the road at Martin Rosols. Each hot dog is served New Britain style with a squirt of yellow mustard, a spoonful of diced onions and a generous heaping of the famous sauce. Prices are low, with every item on their menu under $5. Hot dogs cost $1.90 a piece, and additional toppings run 60 cents each. Other menu items include burgers and cheeseburgers, kellie dogs (indiviudal sized kielbasa), grilled cheese, onion rings and french fries. And fans of their famous sauce are in luck, as they also sell it by the pint.

Stepping into the restaurant can feel like a trip back in time, with the simple decoration and low prices. The assembly line style setup guarantees quick service, making it the perfect lunch stop or place to grab an order to-go. And with the menu being very kid friendly, its a great option that will satisfy the whole family.
