Black-Owned Restaurants in Connecticut
#AsAnAllyIWill is a call to action campaign started by Mimi Gonzalez at June 2nd’s protest in West Hartford, CT. She invites all of you to use the hashtag on social media and proclaim what you, as an ally will do to help the Black community.
As an ally I have failed. This blog was started as way to get people out of their comfort zone (or the same four restaurants they always went to) and to introduce people to a DIVERSE variety of food businesses across the state. As time went on I fell back into my own comfort zone and this diverse coverage dwindled. There has been little to no coverage of Black owned businesses on this blog and for that I am sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t give you the same amount of exposure as your white colleagues. Change begins today. From here on out as an ally I will… spend more of my time and resources to the coverage of Black-owned businesses, and use my platform to amplify Black voices at my events, on my blog and on my social feeds.
One of the easiest ways to show support for the Black people in our community is by putting our money where our mouths are. This means actively supporting Black-owned restaurants (and all Black-owned businesses) in everyday life. Want to support Connecticut’s Black-owned restaurant community with your dollars?
