Milkcraft Ice Cream, famous for their bubble cones and creameebuns is opening a storefront in West Hartford this summer. They will occupy the former La Petite France space at 967 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford Center.

Owner David Mainiero says the ice cream shop will be open at the end of June or early July depending on construction. Milkcraft currently has one location in Fairfield, CT. The West Hartford location will be their second, with Greenwich, Stamford and New Haven coming next and then eventually expanding to other states through franchises. Mainiero says they chose West Hartford for its lively center and proximity to a number of schools. This location is slightly larger than their Fairfield store, and while it won't have a large outdoor patio like Fairfield does, it will have outdoor seating. The West Hartford location will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Milkcraft prides itself on being "cow to cone," getting their all natural, antibiotic and steroid free milk products from a farm group based in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and using the milk within fifteen days of it leaving the cow. While they serve regular cones, they have garnered a following for their bubblecones and creameebuns, pictured above.

The bubblecones are based off the popular waffle eaten at street carts all over Hong Kong. They have special waffle machines shipped in from China to make the cones, and then fill them with liquid nitrogen frozen ice cream. According to Mainiero, the extremely low temperature of the liquid nitrogen creates smaller ice crystals, resulting in a smoother ice cream than normal. Creameebuns are their other bestseller: ice cream filled donuts that are sealed shut and heated resulting in a stuffed piping hot donut paired with toppings of your choice.

Some of their most popular combinations include: S'mores Campfire with deep cocoa chocolate ice cream, a fire roasted marshmallow and graham cracker crumbs; Blue Cookie Butter with blue speculoos cookies and cream butter; and Sea Salted Caramel with fresh caramel sauce, sea salt flakes and maple kettle corn.

Milkcraft is also launching an ice cream truck, dubbed the "Milk Truck" at the end of April. It will frequent fairs, farmers markets and events throughout Connecticut, serving their signature menu items.
